The UPSIDE Program supports EMDRIA members who are committed to expanding access to EMDR therapy in communities where trauma treatment may be harder to reach.

Through financial assistance, consultation support, education opportunities, networking and leadership development, UPSIDE helps EMDR therapists progress toward EMDRIA Certification™ or Approved Consultant™ status while strengthening access to high-quality EMDR therapy.

About UPSIDE

How does the UPSIDE Program work?

UPSIDE supports eligible EMDRIA members working toward EMDRIA Certified Therapist™ or EMDRIA Approved Consultant™ status. Recipients receive financial assistance for eligible consultation completed after acceptance, an EMDRIA online educational opportunity and access to program activities and professional connections. UPSIDE is intended to help with credentialing expenses but is not a full scholarship.

How long can I participate in UPSIDE?

Do I need to have an agreement with a consultant before applying?

No. You may apply without having selected a consultant or established a consultation agreement. If you are accepted, program staff can provide a list of participating consultants, or you may invite another EMDRIA Approved Consultant™ to participate.

Before eligible consultation begins, you and your consultant must establish an active written consultation agreement that follows EMDRIA’s consultation guidance. The consultant must also agree to the UPSIDE program’s rates, invoicing requirements and other participation terms.

Award Benefits and Payments

How are consultation benefits distributed?

The Foundation pays participating consultants directly after eligible consultation has been completed and the consultant submits the required payment request. Payments are not made directly to recipients.

For recipients pursuing EMDRIA Certified Therapist™ status, UPSIDE provides up to $950 in consultation support. For recipients pursuing EMDRIA Approved Consultant™ status, the maximum is $650. The maximum covered rate is $25 per hour for group consultation and $100 per hour for individual consultation.

Recipients are responsible for any consultation costs that exceed the program’s maximum rates or total award amount.

Can UPSIDE cover consultation sessions completed before I was accepted?

What educational opportunity is included?

How do I find a participating consultant?

After you are accepted, program staff will provide a list of consultants who have agreed to the UPSIDE participation terms. You may select someone from that list or work with another EMDRIA Approved Consultant™ who is willing to sign the UPSIDE Consultant Agreement.

You can also use EMDRIA’s Find an EMDR Therapist™ Directory to search for an EMDRIA Approved Consultant™. All participants must maintain a written consultation agreement that follows EMDRIA’s consultation guidance.
